Caral Edelberg, CPC, CCS-P, CHC
President Emeritus
Caral Edelberg is the founder of Medical Management Resources (MMR). She is a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), a Certified Clinical Coding Specialist (CCS-P), and is certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC).
Caral has published many articles for national publications on various healthcare management topics, including APCs, medical record documentation, coding and billing policies, compliance, effective communication within healthcare systems, COBRA/EMTALA legislation, and CPT and ICD-9 coding and billing.
In 1998 and 2000, the American College of Emergency Physicians honored Caral with its "Over the Top" outstanding faculty award for teaching excellence. In 1991, she received ACEP's award for Outstanding Faculty Performance. Caral is uniquely honored as the only non-physician to receive these awards. She served on ACEP’s Reimbursement and Coding/Nomenclature Advisory Committees for many years.
Caral has conducted over 400 presentations and lectures on subjects related to the process management of coding, billing, compliance, staff communications, medical necessity, financial operations and charge development. Numerous state and national associations regularly ask her to speak, including the American College of Emergency Physicians, Emergency Nurses Association, Emergency Department Practice Management Association, National Managed Heath Care Congress, Radiology Business Managers Association, and the American Academy of Professional Coders.
Caral is a three-term member of the National Advisory Board for the American Academy of Professional Coders; past consulting editor and current member of the editorial advisory committee of ED (Emergency Department) Coding Alert; and member of the editorial advisory boards of ED Management, OPPS Insider and APC Advisor. She is co-author of two volumes of "Procedural Coding For Emergency Medicine—An Educational Manual," published by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and author/editor of ED Coding Answer Book published by DecisionHealth. Additionally, Caral co-authored the Emergency Medicine Study Guide and Specialty Examination for the Advanced Board of Medical Coding (ABMC); developed the Emergency Medicine Study Guide and Competency Examination for Ingenix/AAPC and is a contributing editor for the Emergency Medicine Study Guide and Competency Examination for the AAPC certification program.
Caral’s editorial and authorship credentials for emergency medicine publications include "Emergency Medicine Clinics of North America-Emergency Department Administration and Management" published by Saunders and "Emergency Department Management—Principles and Applications" published by Mosby. She also publishes "Edelberg on Coding," an industry hot topics newsletter recognized for its leading edge analysis and advice on ED-related coding and compliance issues.
