Twenty years ago, emergency medicine was still in its infancy. Yet it didn’t take long for the medical world to realize that this practice—one which provided episodic care encompassing many specialties—was an entirely different animal when it came to coding and billing. MMR: The Authority in ED Coding and Reimbursement
In response to the burgeoning need for ED coding and billing support, Medical Management Resources (MMR) was born. Founded in 1986 by industry guru Caral Edelberg, CPC, CCS-P, CHC, MMR was one of the nation’s first consulting firms to focus exclusively on coding and reimbursement for the field of emergency medicine. From the moment we opened our doors, we set out to empower physicians with the knowledge and resources to better manage the claims process and collect more of the money they are legitimately owed.
Initially offering services to emergency physician groups, MMR has since expanded its client base to include hospital emergency departments, coding and billing companies and compliance attorneys. In January 2000, TeamHealth — the nation's largest clinical outsourcing organization, providing staffing and management services for more than 600 hospitals and physician groups — purchased MMR because of its excellent reputation in coding, reimbursement and compliance for this specialty. Today, headquartered in beautiful Jacksonville, Florida, our organization continues to function as a wholly operated subsidiary under the direction of Mrs. Edelberg.
The fact that MMR has been built largely on word-of-mouth referrals is a testament to our success.
